Auction Lot #313CarriersPHILADELPHIA "1" FROM-THE-MAILS cover with 10c postage [due]. Outer letter sheet from Macon, AL to Philadelphia has a pencil "1" or a checkmark (possibly) applied in Philadelphia as a carrier rate marking [due] for delivery from the mails. Street address suggests that the sender expected the cover to be delivered to the addressee. No year date. Calvet Hahn postulated that this cover, which is part of the Philadelphia Campbell trove, was carrier-delivered as were other Campbell covers that had carrier rates. If this is correct, then the date of this cover would be sometime between February 19 and June 30, 1851, when postage for over 300 miles was 10c and the Philadelphia carrier fee for delivery from the mails was 1c. Rough opening at bottom. Offered "As is."PROVENANCE: Ex. HahnCV: Est. Value $115MINIMUM BID: $15.00
